- The Sharify family, of Greeley, Colorado and the Northern Virginia area, created the Sason Sharify Scholarship Fund (SasonsFund) in July, 2001, after the tragic and accidental death of Sason Sharify, a respected high school math teacher, athlete, coach, son, brother, and friend to many. SasonsFund, established as a non-profit tax-exempt fund managed by the Community Foundation Serving Greeley and Weld County (CFSGWC), is sustained by generous donations from individuals and corporations. SasonsFund distributes scholarships to college-bound seniors at selected Colorado high schools in April/May of each year. Please contact Robert Sharify at sasonsfund@aol.com for information about tax-deductible donations and scholarship applications.
- Congratulations to Kendra Gerk (Greeley West), Lauren Keiser (Greeley Central), and Brittany Lynn Booten (Wasson), the 2008 SasonsFund Scholarship winners! Good luck to all of you in all of your academic and athletic endeavors!
- Previous winners of the SasonsFund scholarship include Courtney Groves, Sarah Paul, and Robert Goforth for 2007, James Canali, Jesse Cruz, and Ben Martinez for 2006, Kathryn Clagett, Mallory Kendall, and Jessica Campbell for 2005, Kiel Lowen, Caitlin Paulsen, and Kelly Hertneky for 2004, Melanie Peddle, Nathan Bohlken and Carey Kohout for 2003, and Levi Brathall and Ryan Shannon for 2002.
- Enough cannot be said of the efforts of everyone involved with the SasonsFund Benefit Golf Tournament, with the last one held on June 17, 2006. This event was incredibly fun and will help the SasonsFund scholarships continue for many years!
- Another thanks goes out to the teachers, coaches, counselors, and administrators at Greeley West, Greeley Central and Roy J. Wasson high schools. They had a special enthusiasm for this scholarship and they started the ball rolling with the applicants. Special appreciation goes out to Teresa Cox and Harry Waterman (Greeley West), Jan Rennie (Wasson), and Steve Vail (Greeley Central) for leading the effort at each high school.
